A-L – ‘elevation, power, extent’
This root springs from the united signs of power and of extensive movement. The ideas which it develops are those of elevation, force, power, extent… Hieroglyphically, this is the symbol of excentric force. In a restricted sense, it is that which tends toward an end, represented by the designative or adverbial relations to, towards, for, by, against, upon, beneath, etc. (The Hebraic Tongue Restored, Fabré d’Olivet, p. 294)
